The Tempest

Three Inch Fool production; Summer Tour 2015

The Three Inch Fools were founded in 2015 by me and my brother James, committed to touring outdoor Shakespeare to castles, stately homes and gardens in the UK. For our first summer tour, we took a production The Tempest on a 2-week tour of Scotland and the North of England (see a full list of venues below), a project on which I was Producer and Composer – as well as one of the motley troupe of actors!

The Fools aim to bring a fresh and vibrant approach to Britain’s greatest playwright. With a rustic blend of wit, originality and eccentricity, combined with live music-making, we provide a dynamic take on Shakespeare sure to make for a thoroughly entertaining Summer’s evening.

The Music:

The music for The Tempest was composed in a rustic folk idiom, drawing particular inspiration from the new folk movement of the 1960s and the mystical ritualism of Paul Giovanni’s soundtrack for the 1973 cult classic The Wicker Man. All of the music was performed live by the actors on their instruments which included guitar, flute, cymbals, ukulele and cajon. Listen to Come Unto These Yellow Sands and Song to Sycorax below, performed by our very own Ariel (Natalie Spence):
